Singing, Dancing, Learning, Giving, Praying

Why a bonfire? Rebbe Shimon told his students that at sunset on the 33rd of the Omer he would pass from this world. They complained, "How can our Master leave us when we need him yet to teach us?" Rebbe Shimeon continued to discourse in Torah all of that day. At the time of sunset a miracle occured and the sun didn't set! Rebbe Shimon continued to teach all that night until just before the dawn. At last the sun set so as to rise again and Rebbe Shimon passed on to the next world. We light bonfires each year to remember the miracle that the sun did not set on Rebbe Shimon's Torah. It is said that Rebbe Shimon comes himself each year to Meron on Lag B'Omer to dance with those who come to celebrate with him. Hope to see you there next year.
