Journey to Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai

We travelled east from Jerusalem through the Judaen Desert. Here is a picture of the desert wilderness. You may see our driver's face reflected in the bus mirror.

Skirting around the ancient Biblical city of Jericho, we travelled north through the Jordan River Valley. We stopped at an oasis "pundak" (or inn) for a short rest and to pray the afternoon prayers. We were all anxious to arrive at Meron and the tzion (burial monument) of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.
